Three Mile to Re-Open After Multi Million Pound Refurbishment
A well-known North East venue is to re-open following a multi-million-pound refurbishment.
Three Mile Inn, at Gosforth, Newcastle, has undergone a £7.5m transformation by owner Malhotra Group plc to create a state-of-the art hotel, bar and restaurant.
And the venue has announced it will open its doors to the public on Thursday 12 November.
At the heart of the site – now called Three Mile – is the Great North Hotel, where a purpose-built, three-storey extension houses 64 luxurious en-suite bedrooms.
Expected to become a sought-after wedding and conference venue, it also boasts an independently accessed function room, private dining facilities and a residents’ lounge.
Another major attraction of the Three Mile site is a new family friendly restaurant; the Pizza Dough Co.
Taking its influence from American-style pizza restaurants, it has an open plan design so customers can watch pizzas being prepared and cooked in traditional stone ovens, with rotating plates, that can reach temperatures of 400˚C.
In addition, a coffee shop, The Great North Bakery & Coffee Co has been created, which the Gosforth-based Malhotra family hopes will become a much-used community hub for neighbouring families.
Open from 7am-5pm daily, it will offer hot and cold drinks as well as toasties, paninis, cakes and snacks.
The site’s terrace has also been extended and fully furnished with external tvs, heated umbrellas and table service.
Around 75 full and part time jobs have been created by the development and operations director, Atul Malhotra, who has overseen the project, said an appreciation of the venue’s history has informed every element of the work.
“Built by brewer, James Deuchar, in 1938 it has been a visual and much-loved landmark for travellers heading up and down the Great North Road ever since,” he said.
“And not only have we taken great care to restore and preserve its spectacular pillared portico, but there are pictorial references to both the site and the wider Gosforth surroundings throughout the interior.”
