Camden's The Good Mixer pub saved from developers - Set to have a free-to-play jukebox, resident
The legendary boozer which was the setting for the Oasis vs Blur feud has been saved. An iconic haunt of musicians and supermodels throughout the 90s, The Good Mixer will be given a new lease of life whilst keeping its traditional roots; expect quality beers, pub grub, live music and live sports. The Good Mixer will be brought back to life from the team behind Magic Roundabout (Old Street) and Near & Far (Peckham Levels). Launching to the public on Friday 13th April, this historical boozer will be given a subtle facelift in time for the opening, and is set to reignite Camden’s love affair with proper pubs.
The Good Mixer got the unusual name after its builders accidentally left a cement mixer inside the pub while it was being constructed in the 1950s. The story goes that the cement mixer wouldn’t fit through the new doors so it had to be buried in the basement. And thus, The Good Mixer was born! Maintaining the musical heritage is key to the refurbishment of The Good Mixer and the traditional pub offering will be complimented with a vintage jukebox, crammed with classics of the Britpop era and famous London artists. It will also feature regular live piano sessions from Camden residents as Camden Piano Rescue are providing a tuned piano to the pub. In the 19th century, piano manufacture was Camden Town’s main industry. Two hundred years later, the Camden Piano Rescue workshop is a testament to this history and the pub is proud to ensure that one of their salvaged pianos will be enjoyed for many more years to come. The Good Mixer will also show major sporting events on the big screen and have big plans for the World Cup in June.
The Good Mixer Musical Heritage:
A two-roomed Irish bar, The Good Mixer was the place to be for anyone who was anyone during the 90s Britpop era. The pub was where band Elastica signed with Deceptive Records and where Menswe@r are said to have formed. It's also the location of the disagreement that started the infamous Blur vs Oasis feud. When Oasis met guitarist Graham Coxon for the first time, one of the Gallaghers apparently jibed: “Nice music, sh*t clothes” and the rest as they say, is history.
