We all know that hard water can cause problems with dishwashers and glass washers, leading to smearing and spotting on ‘clean' ware. However, not all hard water is the same - in different areas of the UK there are different ratios of the various minerals that make the water hard. Those ratios make a considerable difference when it comes to getting the best results. The test can be done very quickly, with the Winterhalter representative taking a sample of local water and checking the results there and then. Typically a water quality test might be done if a customer is having problems with their warewasher, with no obvious explanation. "It's not just ‘how hard' it's also important to know ‘what sort of hard'" says Crowley. "By doing a water quality test at the very start of the buying process, we can ensure the customer gets the right machine, the right chemicals and the right results."
The most common minerals in the UK's water are calcium and magnesium, though others, such as iron, are also found in certain areas. Winterhalter's water quality test also checks the levels of other particles such as chlorine. If the local water has a higher ratio of calcium and some iron, then the choice of chemicals, dosage and so on will be different than if there is, say, more magnesium.
