Most Popular Region for Eating and Drinking Out on Re-Opening Day

As non-essential businesses reopened in England for the first time since lockdown restrictions were imposed in January, new track and trace data reveals the region where the most number of people flocked to visit their local pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes on the first day of trading.

Of 17,446 hospitality venue check-ins yesterday (12th April 2021), one-in-three were made by people in the South East. This was followed by the North West with 19 per cent of check-ins, and Yorkshire with 13 per cent of check-ins.

The data has been gathered by hospitality tech platform Airship.co.uk, through its track and trace solution Trck.to

The business has over 11,000 venues across the UK on the platform, including Wetherspoons, Costa Coffee, Pret, Greggs and Cafe Nero who were opened for trading yesterday.

Hospitality hotspots: From total number of check-ins on Monday 12 April:

South East: 32%

North West: 19%

Yorkshire: 13%

Midlands: 12%

South West: 12%

East Anglia: 8%

North East: 4%

Dan Brookman, CEO of Airship, said: “It was an amazing day despite the snow flurries, and the feedback from operators was that customers were delighted to be back and it more resembled a Sunday in July than a Monday in April. Consumers know what to expect this time around and there was far less strain on the venue teams than previously, even with more stringent guidelines to follow.”

Trck.to is a track and trace solution for businesses to easily keep a temporary record of their customers to help prevent the spread of Covid 19. The system is GDPR-compliant and works through the customer scanning a QR code or visiting a URL. The system allows for the recording of multiple guests, an arrival time and expected dwell time. Customers who choose not to opt-in to receive further communications will be automatically deleted after 21 days, as per the guidance.

Since July last year, Trck.to has checked in more than 23m people across the UK. The Airship team has recently won Dev Team of the Year, Project of the Year and Innovation of the Year awards at the UK Dev Awards in recognition of the speedy development and rollout of Trck.to in summer 2020.
