Major Furniture & Furnishings Auction

Hospitality industry furniture and furnishings valued at over a quarter of a million pounds are to go under the hammer in a spectacular auction next week.

The auction is taking place following the decision of the Contract Furniture Group . . . one of the the UK’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of furniture and fittings for the hospitality and retail industries . . . to consolidate its warehousing, distribution and admin operations, which have previously been spread over three sites in Nottinghamshire.

Managing Director Richard Bellamy said: “We’ve had two years of rapid expansion thanks to both organic growth and a series of competitor acquisitions. Some of the stock from the businesses we have taken over either duplicates our own or does not quite fit our offering, so those products need to be moved on. Additionally our own ranges have evolved hugely over the last few months, meaning a few lines are now being discontinued. Hence the need for the auction.”

Paul Cooper, a director of auctioneers Eddisons CJM, said: “It is an impressive sale. The company manufactures and supplies furniture and furnishings to an extensive range of commercial venues not only throughout the UK but across Europe - hotels, restaurants, pubs, bars, retail centres, holiday parks and the rest, including some very well known names.”

“Over 2,000 individual pieces are going under the hammer in almost 400 lots in the online auction.”

“The auction catalogue includes outdoor and garden furniture, restaurant quality dining room furniture, bar tables and chairs, leather sofas, occasional furniture and even some hotel bedroom furnishings.

“It’s all commercial quality, so whilst it is designed to be attractive and practical - it is also constructed to be able to take a lot of hammer!”

Mr. Cooper added: “We have catalogued the auction in such a way that there are lots that will be of interest to an extensive range of bidders, obviously from the various sections of the hospitality industry and trade buyers but also members of the public. I doubt that any private buyer is going to be interested in a set of 94 restaurant table tops but the rattan style garden furniture surely will appeal, as might some of the fine leather sofas and chairs going under the hammer.”

“The other thing to say is that this stock needs to go, so it is being sold without any reserves. Everything will make what it makes. There could be some real bargains.”

The viewing session is at the Contract Furniture Group site at Private Road 8, Colwick, Nottingham, NG4 2JR on Monday (23rd May) 9am-4pm. The online auction is scheduled to end at 1pm on Tuesday (24th May).
