Heineken UK Shows Long Term Commitment to the On-Trade With £3M Sustainability Fund

HEINEKEN UK is supporting the pub trade with the launch of a £3M EPC sustainability support scheme, helping pubs make sustainable changes. Working in partnership with an independent energy consultancy, the initiative will see HEINEKEN UK cover the cost of all qualifying venues’ first Energy Saving Audit, as well as funding up to £5,000 towards the cost of any improvements needed.

The announcement of support comes after new legislation requires commercial premises, including hospitality venues, to reach an EPC rating of C from April 2027 and B in April 2030. Non-compliant outlets could receive a fine of up to £150,000. The EPC audit outlines areas for improvement, estimated cost, rating impact and payback time to move towards legislation compliance.

Will Rice, Interim On-Trade Director at HEINEKEN UK, comments: “Faced with rising costs, the need to reduce energy usage and be more efficient has never been more important for pubs and bars, and we want to play a part in supporting operators to be more sustainable. The launch of this fund will help make those improvements and drive efficiencies. We appreciate however that this is not an easy task and that there is no one-size-fits-all approach, so this initiative is important to help our customers make sustainable changes.”

To ensure all customers feel supported, HEINEKEN UK has added an independent energy consultancy to its Business Builder Discounts. The consultancy provides EPC Audits and Certification, now mandatory every 10 years. HEINEKEN and SmartDispense® customers can access this exclusive discount alongside many others, helping them save money on the audit itself but also through implementing more sustainable, tailored recommendations. Following the initial assessment, the expert consultants will work with each venue to identify lowest cost options that will have the biggest impact, whilst minimising disruption to day-to-day operations. At a time when publicans are under pressure to reduce both their running costs and carbon footprint, these simple, no or low-cost changes can make a big difference, with many reinvesting savings into bigger initiatives.

HEINEKEN Business Builder Discounts uses the combined buying power of both HEINEKEN and Star Pubs & Bars to negotiate and pass on 100% of these exclusive savings on business essentials from leading suppliers. HEINEKEN and SmartDispense® customers can benefit from discounts on waste management, garden furniture, food, non-consumables, and many more from suppliers that offer great customer service. Neatly packaged up all in one place, helping operators save money and time. HEINEKEN UK is also relaunching its Business Builder Services, a suite of added-value services to help customers grow revenue and footfall, promote their business, boost customer experience and profit from professional support. Many of these services are free or heavily discounted, such as free Social Media Training for Publicans online courses, a free drinks menu design and printing service, and free staff training.
