London’s Largest Independent Brewery – Five Points – Is Progressively Thinking About How to Supply C

Having announced the closure for on-site consumption at its Hackney pub The Pembury Tavern, Co-Founder Ed Mason has released a statement on steps the brewery is taking to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Pembury Tavern is our friendly neighbourhood pub in the heart of Hackney. As well as being the home of The Five Points Brewing Company, it serves as a hub for the local community, offering our range of great beer and tasty pizza to the people of East London.

After careful consideration, we’ve made the call to close the pub for on-premises consumption from Friday 20 March, on the advice and recommendation of the government, and for the safety of our staff, customers and the wider local community.

That doesn’t mean we’ve shut up shop, though: we want to give our staff the opportunity to keep working, and allow our regulars to continue to enjoy our beer and pizza from the comfort of their own homes.

For that reason, we’re doing as much as possible to adapt our business model to cope in these uncertain times. Instead of drinking in the pub, you can now eat pizza and drink Five Points beers at home: our full pizza menu is now available for collection seven days a week 12 noon-9pm, and the bar is stocked with the full range of cases of Five Points beer at a reduced price of £20 for 12 cans.

We plan to roll out ‘click and collect’ and home delivery in the coming days too, and we are offering customers a 20% discount on all webshop orders for home delivery.

You can make the most of the webshop offer by using the code ‘HERES20’ at shop.fivepointsbrewing.co.uk

Our regulars seem to be jumping at the chance to order their favourite home-cooked Pembury pizza – we’re selling as many as 50 a day at the moment – and the webshop is going great guns as well. We’ve been blown away by everyone’s support.

We have to caveat this by saying that these are fast-moving times and we’re assessing the situation on a day-by-day basis, but we’re hopeful that taking steps towards a takeaway and delivery-focused model will help keep staff in work and revenue coming in.

It’s not necessarily going to replace our existing business model overnight, but right now every little bit helps our staff and our regulars.”
