Now Open: ‘No 35 Mackenzie Walk’ in Canary Wharf
Darwin & Wallace, the collection of independent London bars - recognisable by their contemporary design and sustainability initiatives - has opened a brand new bar in Canary Wharf. Moments from the station and sitting water-side, with uninterrupted views across the dock, No 35 Mackenzie Walk brings a sleek day-to-night local to the neighbourhood. Open at first light to kick start the day with coffees and breakfast and soundtracked by DJs Wednesday to Friday evenings, the bar is an all-week destination for socialising, from brunch to lunch, private meetings and after-work drinks, to dinner, cocktails and more.
No 35 Mackenzie Walk is the eighth bar from Darwin & Wallace, joining; No 11 Pimlico Road (Chelsea); No 32 The Old Town (Clapham); No 1a Duke Street (Richmond); No 197 Chiswick Fire Station (Chiswick); No 29 Power Station West (Battersea); 601 Queen’s Rd (Wimbledon); and No 17 Dickens Yard (Ealing).
Working with long-time collaborators Box9 Design Studios, the team behind Darwin & Wallace, led passionately by Managing Director Mel Marriot, have created No 35 Mackenzie Walk; a destination bar with a modern edge indicative of the district’s iconic architecture.
No 35 Mackenzie Walk is identifiable as part of the Darwin & Wallace collection by its grand, hand-crafted feature bar - a prominent feature in all eight bars, each created bespoke and in fitting with the spaces. Guests are welcomed by Jan Hendzel ‘chunkers’; a collection of modern stools created sustainably from reclaimed Douglas fir. Wrapping the bar gracefully, independent interior designers, The French House, have created bar stools that will comfortably take guests through from a midday snack to evening cocktails. Meanwhile, plush sofas and lounge chairs finished in forest green and terracotta upholstery fill the space.
Rich, rustic tones throughout are highlighted by lantern lighting, and the room is dressed with fig trees and preloved furniture from antiques store, No.1 Lewes. As such, the bar serves as a warming backdrop to day-long socialising; while the bathrooms host flashes of neon from Bag&Bones, to deliver perfect Instagrammable moments.
A glass-encased dining space offers a private room for up to 30 guests, catering to board meetings, birthday celebrations, feasts and drinks parties. Looking out across the bar and beyond to the waterside terrace through the floor-to-ceiling windows, it offers front row seats to the morning light and evening sundown.
The south-facing terrace spans the length of the bar and offers al-fresco dining for all seasons, with canvas umbrellas and outdoor heaters to keep the weather at bay and weather-resistant cosy seating to sink into and watch the world go by. During warmer months, a terrace bar will offer seasonal cocktails and Peroni on draught and the floor to ceiling windows of the interior bar will be opened to bring the outdoors in, allowing for bar service directly through the windows.

“The inspiration for CW was to create another home for D&W that would be a sanctuary from the hectic pace and ubiquitous shiny surfaces of CW. We chose a very natural, soft, warm palette of nudes, greens and peachy colours. The space still needed to be modern to fit into its surroundings whilst using natural materials and elegant proportions to soften and envelope its occupants.”
A bar first and foremost, No 35 Mackenzie Walk offers long and short-serve cocktails for all tastes. Putting a seasonal spin on classics such as an Old Fashioned and Negroni, and creating new concoctions including Raspberry Shiso and Golden Pineapple Mojito. Catering to the conscious drinker, a dedicated menu offers low-ABV spritzes, while softs from Fix8 Kombucha, Jax Coco and Karma Cola alongside House-made lemonades provide a more virtuous option. Beer from Asahi UK, Beavertown and Camden can be enjoyed by draft and bottle, while a selection of house wines are available by the glass, carafe and bottle. Morning coffee comes courtesy of Caravan Coffee Roasters, a local roastery sourcing the best quality green coffee. Offering an all-day dining menu, No 35 Mackenzie Walk serves scratch-cooked dishes from hearty breakfasts to light lunches, dining feasting and evening sharers. The collection’s locally-sourced and sustainably-minded menu is meticulously created by Executive Chef Simon Duff, changing with the seasons to make the most of responsibly-sourced and local produce.
