NEW OPENING: Caribe’ Opens in Pop Brixton - Bringing Caribbean Carnival Food Culture to South London

Keshia Sakarah, founder and CEO of Caribe’ is excited to announce the launch of the new, permanent restaurant at Pop Brixton. Caribe’ is the culinary creation of self-trained chef and foodie Keshia Sakarah who has made it her purpose to represent her heritage and island eating culture in its entirety. Caribe’ aims to challenge the stereotypical perception of Caribbean food by introducing exciting alternatives to jerk dishes and incorporating foods from islands inspired by Keshia’s travels such as saltfish accra fritters native to Trinidad and stew oxtail and butter beans from St Lucia. Caribe’ will instead build on traditional Caribbean classics including Curry Goat, Steamed Snapper and Ital (vegan) stew peas, elevating them to something extraordinary.

Aiming to provide a unique and modern twist to well-loved Caribbean food, Caribe and Pop Brixton customers can expect to enjoy a diverse and eclectic menu personally created by Keshia who doubles as a two time graduate in BSc (Hons) Food and Consumer Management and MSc Nutrition with Public Health Management.

Keshia states: ‘The goal of the eatery was to create a relaxed and lively atmosphere where people can eat and drink as if they were in the Caribbean. This is simulated by the vibrant and colourful decor to the island music that flows through the space, replicating the vibes of carnival. Each and every island is unique in its own right and I am passionate about sharing it’s individuality. It’s a great bonus to be in the heart of Brixton which is it’s own diverse hub of communities, similarly to the islands.’ The varied menu will host an appetizing food and drink offering with small or large plates, sides and bar snacks. Local island beers and house-made soft drinks such as sorrel and ginger beer will be served alongside the hero signature rum cocktails such as carnival punch and coquito. All of which will be prepared fresh daily, directly on the premises with a variety of gluten-free and vegan options. Prices start from £2.50 for snacks, £6.50 for meals and £2.00 for drinks. Menu updates and events will be shared on the companies social and website, @caribe_uk or caribeuk.com

Caribe’ will be participating in outreach work to support and benefit the local community within the borough of Lambeth as part of the Community Investment Scheme by POP Brixton. Pop Brixton is a cultural hub in the heart of SW9, offering food, drink, music, workshops and more. With each season, the site receives a refresh and makeover, bringing new and interesting events to the local community and Londoners alike. For more information visit https://www.popbrixton.org/
