Independent Hackney brewery to acquire Landmark Hackney Public House

Individual Pubs Ltd, the pub group associated with Milton Brewery, is pleased to announce the sale of The Pembury Tavern to The Five Points Brewing Company. Situated in the heart of Hackney on the ‘five point junction’ from which the brewery takes its name, the Five Points team are taking over a tavern already steeped in the local (craft beer loving) community. By acquiring this staple in the heart of East London, The Five Points maintains its community ethos as a local business with conscience, offering unpasteurised, unfiltered, and flavoursome brews.

Opened in 2013, The Five Points Brewing Company was founded by two local Hackney residents who pledged a commitment to quality and the community. Five years on, the brewery is producing over two million pints of beer annually, each one bursting with flavour and aroma. With seven core range brews and a growing list of seasonals, one-offs and collaborations, the opening of their own landmark taproom is a milestone for the Hackney-based team. Originally built in the 1860’s Pembury Tavern is a landmark Hackney public house steeped in history. After being restored in 2006 following a fire, it has become a regular fixture in The Good Beer Guide and under the ownership of Milton Brewery, has been one of the key pubs to bring help bring back good beer to the area. Commenting on the sale, Richard Naisby, MD of Individual Pubs, said "The Pembury Tavern has been a fantastic pub for us over the years, but when we were approached by The Five Points about a possible sale, the geographical sense was difficult to ignore. Five Points Brewery is based within 100 yards of the Pembury Tavern. We are proud to have brought so much to the renaissance of good beer in Hackney.” Fans of Milton Brewery beers need not worry, since the Cambridge based brewery has negotiated a 12 month supply deal with Five Points brewery to ensure that its popular brews will still be represented in the nation's capital. Ed Mason, Co-Founder and Managing Director of The Five Points Brewing Company said, “The Pembury Tavern has pioneered the appreciation of real ale and great beer in Hackney for generations and we’re really excited to be able to take the reins at this legendary boozer". The Five Points is proud to give back to the local and wider community through various charitable endeavours. As well as being the first brewery in the UK to be an Accredited Living Wage employer, they have sourced electricity from 100% renewable sources and set up an apprenticeship scheme for young, aspiring brewers at Hackney Community College. Earlier this year, they Five Points announced an annual charity partnership with homeless shelter, The Hackney Winter Night Shelter and Headway East London, which supports people affected by brain injuries.
