Specialist cocktail bar Be At One removes plastic straws from its bars

Be At One, the UK’s leading specialist cocktail bar group, has removed plastic straws across its bars nationwide and replaced them with an environmentally-friendly alternative.

With headlines recently revealing that it takes hundreds of years for plastic straws to decompose, Be At One has switched to new corn plastic straws, which are fully compostable and biodegrade in just eight weeks, amid rising concerns over global plastic pollution.

Andrew Stones, Chief Operating Officer, Be At One, said: “As a business, we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment and becoming a more environmentally sustainable operation. Plastic has a devastating environmental impact and is particularly harmful to our oceans and marine life, and as such, we are pleased to be able to switch away from plastic straws.

“Our new corn plastic straws, which biodegrade within 60 days, are available across all our bars now, and we’re confident that our guests won’t notice any difference and continue to enjoy our specialist quality cocktails.”

The introduction of the new straws comes alongside the launch of an exciting new menu with revitalised colours and tone of voice, focused on a music theme. The menu boasts over 100 drinks and features a ‘New Mixes’ page to showcase some of the brand new cocktails now available. In addition, the company has also introduced a ‘Premium Spirits & Mixers’ section, reflecting consumer demand for high-quality options.

Be At One has also redesigned its website and refreshed its award-winning app as part of a brand evolution and new ‘Life Is What You Mix It’ campaign. An innovative feature called Drinkr allows customers to swipe left or right on the menu in order to find an ideal cocktail match according to their personal taste. Further incentives also include a £5 cocktail promotion when the app is downloaded.

Be At One operates 33 bars across the UK, including 17 in London. Its first bar opened in Battersea in 1998.
