Independent neighbourhood bar group Darwin & Wallace announce sixth location


Darwin & Wallace, the independent neighbourhood bar group are thrilled to announce their sixth location, opening in Wimbledon, Spring 2018. Situated in the heart of Wimbledon, South West London, the new location will be adjacent to the tube and rail station and walking distance to the infamous Wimbledon tennis court. The location will join the impressive portfolio of the groups existing quintessential village pubs in Chelsea, Clapham, Richmond, Chiswick and Battersea. A modern vision of a 21st Century pub, Darwin & Wallace's collection of bars are rich in independent spirit and design, creating relaxed spaces for enjoyable drinking and dining, bringing a more home than high street feel. Created by artisans of interiors, food and drink, each location is individually designed with a contemporary style, reflecting both local and global influences. From morning coffee to evening nightcap, the Wimbledon site will feature an all-day casual bar dining experience with a menu of delectable cocktails and drinks plus locally sourced sustainable hearty and virtuous food for any time of day.

The sites design will celebrate its locality and residential neighbourhood and will feature an incredible terrace to be enjoyed all year round, in both the winter and summer months. Maximising the use of light and space, the space will draw on European Hygge inspirations from Copenhagen, Denmark. Alike the groups portfolio, the new Wimbledon bar will feature unique design elements to resonate with its local area, to celebrate Wimbledon's rich culture, its heritage and beyond. Recognised for their design and architecture, Darwin & Wallace are two time award winners of the Restaurant and Bar Design Awards' 'Best Pub' for No 1a Duke Street in 2016 and No 197 Chiswick Fire Station in 2017.

Mel Marriott, Darwin & Wallace Managing Director comments, "After a long hunt for the perfect spot for Darwin and Wallace in Wimbledon, I am delighted to have finally found this wonderful space, centrally located and adjacent to the station in the midst of Wimbledon's vibrant town centre. The large external terrace will be an excellent all year round feature and we are extremely excited to bring our passion for great food and drink and unique interiors to this gorgeous leafy London village."

Now in their sixth year, the group first opened No 11 Pimlico Road in 2012, followed by No 32 The Old Town in 2014, No 1a Duke Street in Richmond in late 2015 and the fourth No 197 Chiswick Fire Stationopened in April 2016. No 29 Power Station West recently opened in July this year on the riverside adjacent to the iconic Battersea Power Station.

Darwin & Wallace works with hand-picked local suppliers to create real places with integrity, reflecting in both the design of the space and curation of the seasonal drinks and food menus, shared across the sister locations. The group achieved this year the coveted three star award by the Sustainable Restaurant Association for their commitment to serving great quality food by celebrating local and seasonal food, sourcing better fish for a healthy ocean, reducing food wastage wherever possible as well as their commitment to local residents and local charities.

Darwin & Wallace's sixth site will open in Wimbledon in Spring 2016.
